I am trying to educate myself regarding spinal cord injuries. My brother-in-law (he is 56 yrs. old. He was in a mountain bike race on 10/31/04 and he flipped over his handle bars. Rand, Jesses dad, has had back trouble on and off for years and now for the last month it has been terrible. He finally went to an orthopedic doc and he physically checked him over and said that it appears that his discs, etc were ok but his back was spasming really bad. I'm looking to buy a portable ramp that I can carry in my Dodge Caravan. It would be used for access to residences of friends and family. I'm thinking it probably should be about 6 to 8 feet long and should fold up into a small enough package to store in the van. I've checked eBay and there's several companies selling different models of these ramps. Has anyone had any experience with these? Any recommendations? I've looked for a new wheelchair for a long time (more than 45 days) and after reading a lot, I decided for a Tilite TX - I want a folding chair that performs (almost) as a rigid one. But, when ordering my chair, I discovered that the maximum seat to floor height (using 24" rear wheel) is only 17.5" (too low for me; I'd like about 20"). So, AFAIK, my options were reduced to Quickie GTX (18.5") and Tilite X (19"). I'd really like to hear comments about these 2 chairs or any better option. I dont have insurance my sister does. She started in 2001 paying $274 per month. In 2002 they increased to $296 per month (almost 10%), in 2003 she paid $320 (again almost 10%). I've tried putting him in his swing, a vibrating chair, his bassinet with and without the vibrate on, with the lights on, with the lights off, and he won't take a pacifier.
